FAIR OAKS DAIRY FARM TRIP
Join Cumberland County Farm Bureau Prime Timers on a trip for all ages to Fair Oaks Dairy Farm in Indiana on September 13th. Fair Oaks Dairy Farm milks approximately 30,000 cows three times each day on 10 different farms. They have around 17,000 acres of corn and alfalfa to produce feed for all of the cows. The cows are milked on a carousel that they enter and exit all on their own. Where there are cows there are baby calves! About 80 – 100 calves are born each day at Fair Oaks Dairy Farm, meaning there is a great chance for you to witness a baby calf being born. On the tour you will see the cow barns, milking carousel, birthing barn, a 4D movie on dairy production, dairy interactive exhibits, the cheese plant, and much more! The bus will leave the Cumberland County Farm Bureau office at approximately 7:30 a.m. and will return around 5:30 p.m. The cost will be $50 for Farm Bureau members and $55 for non-members. Cost includes transportation, admission, a buffet lunch and Fair Oaks Farms ice cream. Call Cumberland County Farm Bureau for reservations at (217) 849-3031. Don’t miss this adventure of a lifetime perfect for all ages!

Cumberland County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee is teaming up with the American Red Cross September 22, 2010 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the Toledo Christian Church. Our goal for the blood drive is to have 26 donors! The actual blood donation usually takes about 10 minutes. Each day in the U.S. approximately 38,000 units of blood are needed. This means that every 2 seconds, someone needs blood. From just one donation, you have the chance to save up to 3 lives! One day it could be you or one of your family members who needs blood. The average adult has 10 pints of blood in their body. Healthy adults who are at least 16 years old, and at least 110 pounds may donate about a pint of blood—the most common form of donation—every 56 days, or every two months.
